“Nature has always been the starting point and meeting place for all our thoughts and deliberations,” says architect Heike Pohl. Fellow architect Andreas Zanier adds, “Architecture must understand the spirit of the place in order to serve it.” Not only did the duo achieve this by using locally sourced building materials such as larch wood, beeswax, and red porphyry, they also conveyed the special charm of the place further and explored the unique dynamics between nature and architecture on site. The result is a building that can be viewed as a frame for nature as a work of art. The numerous platforms, both indoors and outdoors and at different heights, offer various perspectives of the surrounding natural landscape to awaken your fascination time and again.

It took us a long time to find the right interior design that best reflected our philosophy. Our rooms are a tribute to everlasting elegance. As an eco hotel, only local, sustainable materials were considered. When we came across the concept of wabi-sabi, which interweaves timeless interior elements by combining old with new, we had found our inspiration. Can you recall that special feeling you get when you walk into your grandmother’s house? That feeling of warmth, cosiness, and security? The Japanese have a word for this, it’s called ‘sabi’. Sabi represents the intrinsic beauty and sophistication of objects that are of a certain age and are recognisable by their signs of wear and tear. Wabi, in contrast, stands for rustic simplicity, freshness, and stillness. It contains an element of sober elegance, which is essential to timeless interiors.

As a green hotel, it was clear to us from the start that we wanted to go one step further. So, we decided to use local building materials for the construction of our hotel. We also wanted to be guided by natural hues. With that, an interior design developed naturally, as if nature led the way. The natural interior has created spaces in which a certain kind of energy lives – a charm we simply can’t put into words.
